September 2025: Arma server unresponsive due to egg update
Template:Sysop incident header
Narrative
On September 26th, 2025 BBM_Ping pinged @SYS:OP reporting that the Arma 3 server was broken, citing the egg as out of date. SierraKomodo, not familiar with Pterodactyl terminology, updated the machine itself after seeing 50 upgradeable packages. After doing so, the panel and all web services went down. Sushiloid investigated and determined that the update replaced a custom Caddy binary and it's corresponding Cloudflare module. Cloudflare was the hosting provider for the EDC machine. Sushiloid re-inserted the binary with the Cloudflare module and web services returned shortly thereafter
After some investigation, SierraKomodo opted out of attempting to update the Pterodactyl egg, citing confusion and a fear of breaking things.
Early in the morning of the 27th Sirdog reported that the egg was successfully updated, but that the Arma 3 server would still not start, showing a screenshot of the console echoing a (Timeout).Unloading Steam API error when attempting to download an update for the Arma 3 mod ACE Interaction Menu Expansion - Enhanced. Sirdog also informed Fleff that certain startup variables for the Arma 3 server were changed by the egg creator and may need to be tinkered with. Sirdog stated that he would be unable to investigate further for personal reasons.
On October 2nd Sirdog reported that, after attempting to randomly start the Arma 3 server — one of many periodic attempts — that it came online after the egg downloaded new files.
It is suspected that the egg creator pushed an update that corrected the issue.
